23 Griffin Way, Saturday Afternoon
It was the first Saturday in May, and Dani was nowhere near Churchill Downs. Before her falling out with the racing board, she would have been sitting in Millionaire's Row, wearing her best hat and dreaming of sending her horse to the Kentucky Derby.
Even if it looked rainy and miserable on the television, she still wished she was there instead of having to watch NBC's crummy race coverage. She'd even settle for sitting in the grandstand wearing one of those tacky rain ponchos just to be there.
Dani had poured her first mint julep at noon and was tipsy long before post time. At the rate she was going, she was going to run out of bourbon before the horses made it to the starting gate.
[Establishy, but definitely open for anyone who wants to watch the race with her.]

Fortunately, she'd picked up one up yesterday. It was in the fridge.

She was distracted momentarily by the horses being loaded in the starting gate. "Hey! No closing the gate on the poor horsie's tail," she shouted at the television.

"Ask, and ye shall receive."

He thought he was funny.

And it was a sure bet, since fillies had won 3 out of the last 135 Kentucky Derbies.

The filly finished in 10th place.

And after debating the best plan of attack, Dani scooped up a piece with her fingers. "Mmm, good pie," she mumbled.

Mainly because you've spent most of the last five years alone, John.
